Judging from the listed speakers and groups, as well as the name of the event, it's clear that it's more of rally than a productive discussion forum.
I agree with Alex. Unless strong measures are taken to control a free for all shouting match, nothing productive will come of this meeting. Unfortunately radicals from both sides of the issue steal away any chance of real dialog.
I agree. I assume the only person that would be FOR the checkpoints on the list is the one representing the republicans. I know the Mayor and the rest of the groups had voiced against it.
I personally think checkpoints can be useful to serve the purpose of stopping those who are drunk. But I do feel that it is often not used for that purpose and strategically placed for other purposes.
But it's nice to see the Mayor come out to Cal Poly.
Its going to be a waist of time if those boarder brothers and sisters dont like it leave as simple as that but then that means driving a little farther to the welfare office.
Since checkpoints are hardly a partisan issue, I wouldn't bank on the lone Republican making a case for checkpoints either. And even if he tries to make a pro checkpoint argument, nobody will hear him over the shouting. We've seen this before.
No, I think the makeup of this group is well crafted as a an anti-checkpoint rally.
So, what was the result of the discussion. Did it even happen? Curious how the Mayor did.
Actually I got notice that the Mayor couldn't show up because of an Emergency City Council meeting that night. I didn't go either because of other obligations. I will however ask a friend that attended and see how it went.
