Our First Annual Portfolio Critique

Today we had our first annual portfolio critique. I put this program together so that my classmates can all develop a well rounded portfolio to show to potential employers. Unfortunately..... We had 12 confirmed firms and only 4 showed up. and out of about 400 students only about 15 came with portfolios. and trust me... EVERY student knew about it.

It is becoming more and more apparent that there is too much apathy within the field of Landscape Architecture. A professor recently said to us that Landscape Architects are too passive and meek. It is true.

We should be on the forefront of environmentalism. We shouldn't be letting unqualified individuals such as architects do our jobs. We should be pushing our local leaders to beautify our cities, the RIGHT way. Why hasn't Pomona done this? Well there is only one licensed Landscape Architect in Pomona but we have a university with one of the top Landscape Architecture departments in the country.

I am truly disappointed that there is little or no action from Landscape Architects. I hope it changes soon.

Cal Poly Attacks

Yesterday there were two attacks on campus. one at 8:30 am INSIDE the administrative CLA building. and the other in Parking Lot M at 8:00pm.

Nothing came of both attacks as the attacker ended up running away either from a yell nearby or the victim fighting back. The woman who fought back had a pocketknife that ended up injuring her instead of the attacker.

Parking Lot M is where many of my classmates park and we often spend late nights in our design studio. Some classmates are scared to stay late now.

These are gutsy attacks happening during busy hours of our school day. Hope someone stops the attacker(s)

Finals... and the big move.

Finals week is next week and i'm starting to feel the crunch. The big move is also coming up next friday. As I prepare for my new life in Pomona I've met the goddessofpomona and discovered her wonderful blog at www.goddessofpomona.com. I hope to be attending the city council meetings whenever possible. I want to be able to contribute to my new home town and really help push the city in the "right" direction.

Getting Started

I've decided to start a new blog as I move to Pomona. I previously had a blog on xanga.com (that will remain anonymous) and once I've settled down in Pomona after spring break (starts March 22nd) I'll be able to continue here.
